Management Group – Steadings Community Management Trust (SCMT)

Overview: The Steadings Community Management Trust (SCMT) is seeking a Resident Member to join its Management Group, a sub-committee of the SCMT Board. This is an opportunity for a local resident to play an active role in shaping how community facilities, land, and resources at The Steadings are managed and developed for the benefit of Cirencester and its residents. The Management Group supports the delivery of the Trust’s objectives, helps guide day-to-day operations, and ensures that community needs and priorities are reflected in decision-making. Resident Members bring valuable lived experience, local insight, and a community perspective to this work.

About the Management Group: The Management Group is responsible for overseeing how SCMT’s facilities and resources are used and developed. It works closely with the Board of Trustees, local authorities, developers, housing associations, and voluntary and community organisations to support the sustainable development of The Steadings. The group meets bi-monthly (at least quarterly) and reports directly to the SCMT Board.

The Role: Resident Member: As a Resident Member, you will:

  • Represent the interests and perspectives of residents
  • Help ensure community facilities and resources meet local needs
  • Contribute to discussions on the operation, development, and future direction of The Steadings
  • Act as a link between the Trust and the wider community
  • Support transparent communication and community engagement

Resident Members are also encouraged to develop their understanding of the Trust’s work, with the potential to consider standing as a Trustee in the future if they wish.

Key Responsibilities: Resident Members of the Management Group will:

  • Help oversee the management and effective use of SCMT facilities, buildings, and land
  • Raise matters of community concern and help identify solutions
  • Contribute to planning and reviewing operational and business plans
  • Support community consultation and engagement activities
  • Work collaboratively with trustees, officers, partners, and other group members
  • Ensure that facilities complement and enhance what is already available in Cirencester
  • Act in the wider interests of the community rather than representing a single issue or organisation

Who We are Looking For: We welcome applications from residents who:

  • Live locally and care about their community
  • Are interested in community development, facilities, or local services
  • Can work collaboratively and constructively with others
  • Are willing to listen, share views, and help reach consensus
  • Can maintain confidentiality and act with integrity

You do not need previous board or governance experience. Support will be provided, and a strong interest in the community is just as important as formal skills.

Time Commitment: Meetings are planned and held in accessible venues where possible.

  • Meetings are held bi-monthly (at least quarterly).
  • Some additional reading or informal engagement may be required between meetings
  • The role is voluntary and unpaid

Governance and Conduct: Resident Members are expected to:

  • Act in accordance with the Trust’s Code of Conduct
  • Declare any conflicts of interest
  • Treat all members with respect and without discrimination
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

How to Apply: To express interest or request an informal conversation about the role, please contact: info@steadingscmt.org.uk. We are committed to encouraging involvement from people with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences and welcome applications from all sections of the community.
